Conclusion

Originally built in the 1920s as a URM corner gas station, the structure saw decades of adaptive reuse before its transformation into the flagship location of David Zwirner Gallery.

The renovation retained three existing perimeter walls to preserve zoning setbacks, while the structure was otherwise entirely redeveloped. The building was seismically upgraded with a new ductile lateral force-resisting system, including full diaphragm retrofits and out-of-plane wall anchorage to integrate the retained URM elements.

The result is a three-story, 15,000-square-foot gallery with high-clearance exhibition space, private viewing rooms, offices, and a rooftop deck with views toward the Hollywood Sign.
